A prior authorization (PA) is when your doctor has to ask your insurance company for permission before you can get a certain medicine, test, or treatment. Requests can take up to 10 business days. Ask your doctor's office to submit the PA request as soon as your prescription is written.


My insurance denied Wegovy®. What do I do next?

If your insurance denies Wegovy® coverage, your doctor can file an appeal or a peer-to-peer review request with your insurer. If you have employer-sponsored insurance, your doctor can also write a formal coverage request letter to your HR department.

If coverage is not available through your plan, you can explore self‑pay options using the Wegovy® savings offer or NovoCare® Pharmacyb.

How long does my PA last?

Your PA can be valid for anywhere between 30 days and over a year, depending on your coverage. When you get PA, check with your insurance company or doctor’s office for when you will need to renew.
