It’s important to dispose of your used needles and injection pens right away in a sharps disposal container. If you are using a Novo Nordisk medication, we'll send one to you...no charge.
Novo Nordisk announces ReMed™ US
Novo Nordisk's ReMed™ US gives new life to used injection pens. If you live in one of these states and use our pens, order a sharps container and return your used pens. Through ReMed™ US the pens will be recycled for new purposes.
Participating US states: AL, AR, CO, IA, KS, LA, MO, MS, NM, OK, SD, TN, and TX.

This program is intended to support patients who are taking a Novo Nordisk product. If you are a hospital, clinic, health care office, etc., please do not request a sharps or medicine return container.
Request the appropriate container through the form.
Fill the container with Novo Nordisk products ONLY:
Sharps disposal
Fill with used pens and/or needles.
Medicine return
Fill with unused pills or vials.
Arrange for the container to be picked up for return when the container is full.

Safe disposal FAQs
Where can I get a free sharps disposal container or medicine return container?
If you are on a Novo Nordisk product, you can get one by filling out the form above.
If you’re on another brand and don’t have a container, you can make your own by using a household container (like an empty laundry detergent container). It needs to be:
- Made of heavy-duty plastic
- Able to be closed with a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid. Sharps should not be able to come out
- Able to stand up and not tip over during use
- Leak-proof
- Clearly labeled to warn of hazardous waste inside the container
What do I do when my disposal container is almost full?
Some states or towns have rules about how to throw away used needles, injection pens, or medicine. When your container is almost full, follow your local rules to throw it away the right way.
If you get a free sharps or medicine return container from Novo Nordisk, we will safely dispose of it for you. The package will include simple steps for how to send it back.

What else is important to know?
- Do not throw loose needles, injection pens, vials, or blister packs in the trash or recycling
- Keep your container out of reach of children and pets
- Do not put your used container in the trash or recycling unless your local rules say it’s okay
- Put any unused Novo Nordisk medicine in your medicine return container
- Do not put needles or injection pens in the medicine return container. Put them only in the sharps return container
